Ganoderma (aka Reishi mushroom) is an adaptogen, meaning that it gives your body exactly what it needs. It “adapts” to bring your body back into balance the way God designed. If you need more energy, it can boost your energy. If you need to calm down, it can help calm you down.

Health Benefits of Ganoderma

For those of you who don’t know, Ganoderma is a mushroom extract that’s great for boosting your your immune system, detoxifying the body, and slowing down the aging process.  Ganoderma Lucidum is known as the king of herbs. It is treasured in other countries and used in treatments and therapies across the world. There are over 3,000 Pub Med studies surrounding Ganoderma helping with the following:

  • Cancer Fighting/Prevention

  • Diabetes Type I & II

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Liver Protection

  • Antibacterial/Antiviral

  • Cholesterol

  • Radiation Protection

  • Urinary Tract Support

  • Boosting Immune System

  • Autoimmune Diseases

  • Hashimotos

  • PCOS

  • & more

  • Source, Source, Source, Source

There are a number of ways to get Ganoderma into the diet including: coffee, tea, soap, energy drinks, protein, toothpaste and spore capsules. Personally, I choose to use only 100% organic Ganoderma, since most Reishi mushrooms are artificially grown from plastic bags and do not contain enough of a therapeutic dose to notice benefits.

How to Get The Best Ganoderma Into Your Diet

With millions of Ganoderma products out there (often called Reishi in the states) its hard to know what is the best or actually worth using. I used to buy Reishi from an online herb company but never found myself using it. I had to add it to smoothies or hot water and was never a fan of the taste really. Not to mention, most ganoderma is grown artificially in plastic bags, lending possibility for heavy metals and toxicities.

Ganoderma can be consumed as a dried root or leaf as tea or tincture, powdered dried root encapsulated, or powdered and added to a coffee beverage.

A ganoderma lucidum takes about 5-7 months to mature. When it does, it will release spores in a most amazing array of nature. The spores are released from the underside of the mushroom and cover the entire mushroom within a few minutes and after a few hours the entire micro-environment is covered by spores. It takes almost 2000 pounds of spores to make 2 pounds of spore powder.

The prized spores are impossible for humans to digest due to their hard shell that protects and nourishes spore potency. In order to open, they must be carefully ”cracked” and not spill out any of their precious and microscopic contents so that our bodies can digest them.

Ganoderma organic spores are expensive not just because of their nutrients, but also because harvesting them has to be timed just right and how the spores are ‘opened’ directly impacts the quality.

Other companies crush the shells, also crushing the spore itself, but I’ve chosen to only use Ganoderma from a company that uses a patented process to gently crack the shell, releasing the power of the spores to help protect and defend your health. I’ve linked the products I choose to use in the recipe and at the bottom of this post.

Ganoderma “Reishi” Latte

My favorite way to consume reishi is through King coffee that contains:

  •  Organic Medium Dark Roasted Arabica Coffee – one of the most popular coffee beans in the world made in Brazil

  • Organic Ganoderma Reishi Spores – The Ganoderma mushroom is one of the oldest mushrooms to be used in Chinese herbalism, ranking close to ginseng for years of usage. It is one of the most researched mushrooms, partly because in Ganoderma there are substances called triterpenes. These are found in many foods and plants like honey, apples, and cranberries. There are 50 of these substances that are exclusively found in ganoderma mushrooms. When the Ganoderma lucidum mature, they release spores which are used in the King and offer impressive benefits.
